Andrew started learning Wing Chun in 1997 at Cheng's Wing Chun Wu Shu Academy.
At first he had no idea what Wing Chun was, he just wanted to learn Kung Fu. So he went to Cheng's Wing Chun Wu Shu Academy, and then wasn't really sure he was learning Kung Fu, but it was a lot of fun, so he kept on training anyway.
Eventually, Andrew discovered, not only that Wing Chun is indeed Kung Fu, but that, as Oliver Cheng's student, he was learning something truly special - exceptionally high quality Kung Fu.
Very quickly Andrew started attending every available training session, and training outside of class hours too.
Under Cheng Sifu's guidance Andrew learned Yip Man Wing Chun, eventually becoming one of Cheng's Wing Chun Wu Shu Academy's instructors where he gained countless hours teaching experience, and also a much deeper understanding and appreciation of Wing Chun.
In 2001 Cheng Sifu invited Andrew to become his private student. From that time Andrew started learning Guangzhou Wing Chun (also known as Yuen Kay San or Sum Nung Wing Chun), and has been dedicated to it ever since. As Cheng Sifu's private student Andrew has trained in the traditional way, which places a great deal of emphasis on good foundations and high quality.
Upon Cheng Sifu's retirement form public teaching in 2008, Andrew continued as an instructor in Cheng's Wing Chun Wu Shu Academy, until Cheng Sifu encouraged him to start his own school.
Andrew opened the Mui Wing Chun Wu Shu Academy in 2015 and continues to pass on the top quality Wing Chun, that he continues to learn from Sifu Oliver Cheng, to this day.
"I started learning King Fu simply because it was something I'd always wanted to do. Little did I realise that it would change the course of my life...... for the better.
As I learned more Wing Chun, I also learned to relax, to not be bothered by things so much, or so often. I also developed more confidence. And very importantly, I learned more concentration and how to focus.
Eventually this all lead to a degree, which lead to a PhD. I don't think I'd have done any of that if not for learning Wing Chun, and if not for the supportive and encouraging environment that my Sifu, Oliver, maintained in his school. It's an environment I do my best to replicate in my own school, so that my students can get the benefits I got from learning Wing Chun."
